Scaled down convention proposal explored
The Ottawa Citizen, April 25

OTTAWA – Planners are developing a cheaper, less controversial proposal for expanding convention facilities at the Rideau Centre, scrapping plans to bury part of Colonel By Drive in a tunnel beneath a convention facility extending to the bank of the Rideau Canal. A revised proposal – one that will cost far less than the original $150 million Canadian dollars (US$102 million) estimate – is due to be completed in the next few days.

Agency may seek to freeze land deals
The Toronto Star, April 25

ONTARIO – Ontario Realty Corp. will likely seek a court order soon to freeze property it has sold to P. Gabriele & Sons and related companies. The agency issued the brief lawsuit after its investigators uncovered evidence of alleged fraud in connection with a series of environmental cleanup contracts. A Gabriele company is also at the center of allegations concerning bid rigging on a cleanup contract it won in the Pickering area and subsequent failure to finish the job.
