Jordan C. Paul has joined NAI/Merin Hunter Codman Inc. as chief operating officer and partner.

Paul, a seasoned player in the high-yield commercial mortgage business, most recently was senior managing director at Related Group of Florida, which he joined in 2008.

NAI/Merin is an active commercial property broker in Palm Beach County, Fla., but plans to move beyond its home base with Paul's help. He is charged with developing ventures with institutional partners and expanding the company's reach in brokerage, construction and property-management services. He will also help recruit professionals.

Neil E. Merin, chairman of NAI/Merin, called Paul's hiring the "capstone" of the firm's expansion efforts.

Paul has been involved in the acquisition and management of more than $3.5 billion of real estate during his career.

He joined Related, a Miami developer that specializes in the condo and multifamily arenas, to oversee an investment fund it had launched with Lubert-Adler Partners. He previously was founder and chief executive of Aquila Property Co., a Jupiter, Fla., property investment firm that acquired a number of distressed properties and turned them around.

Paul was also a principal of Allied Capital Corp. of Washington, D.C., and before that was also president of Llama Capital Mortgage, a conduit-lending operation controlled by the Walton family of Bentonville, Ark., which also controls the Wal-Mart retailing chain. He was also executive vice president of Ocwen Financial, when the West Palm Beach, Fla., company was among the most active players in the distressed mortgage business.
