Wetlands benefit seen in mall proposal
The Star-Ledger (Newark, N.J.), July 25

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Mills Corp., of Arlington, Va., has proposed a 2 million-square-foot complex and fill 204 acres of wetlands, also known as the Empire Tract. The land is privately owned. Over the next eight weeks, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be gathering public comment on the Mills project. Public input will factor into whether the Corps issues a wetlands permit that is key to the project. According to a federal draft environmental study, in some ways the facility could help the struggling wetlands.


Navy to leave Crystal City for Washington Navy Yard

WASHINGTON – In January, the Naval Sea Systems Command will begin transferring employees to four buildings in the Navy Yard along the Anacostia River and vacate its current one home in Crystal City, in Arlington County, Va. The Navy leases about 1 million sf in nine buildings in Crystal City. Once the Navy leaves, the buildings are expected to be extensively renovated and then released.
