FelCor Lodging Trust reported that revenue per available room fell by 17.8 percent in the latest quarter to $80.39 when compared to the second quarter.

The drop in RevPAR was led by a 12.5 percent decline in average rates to $116.51 and 6 percent occupancy decline to 69 percent.

The decline in RevPAR was not as pronounced as the 20.6 percent decline in the second quarter, and the Irving, Texas, REIT said some of its markets are showing signs of improvements.

Last month, for instance, it said occupancy declined by only 2.4 percent and RevPAR declined by 12.6 percent.

But, it added, "there has not yet been a widespread improvement in demand trends and the shift of the customer mix continues to pressure rates." It said its premium corporate and group segments remain weak. It is projecting that RevPAR for the full year will be down between 18 and 18.5 percent from a year ago.

The company owns 87 hotels and resorts with some 25,000 rooms in 23 states and Canada, but its operating data is based on 85 hotels.
